Chamber of Commerce Alcohol Survey Results

Will the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce take a leadership role in the push for an alcohol sales petition? They should decide soon.

On Monday NewsChannel 11 told you that the Lubbock business community was weighing in on the alcohol sales issue. The chamber's survey shows business leaders are ready to see some action towards alcohol sales. The survey opened last Thursday and closed Monday evening with 28% of the Chamber's membership responding. The results were overwhelmingly in support of alcohol sales expansion in the city of Lubbock.

  • 87% favor a petition driven election for voters to decide if they want expanded alcohol slaes in the city limits.
  • 80% responded they would support the Chamber supporting a petition drive.
  • 82% favor expanded alcohol sales in the city limits.
  • 80% said if the majority of Chamber members believe alcohol sales would benefit their business, they would favor the chamber actively supporting the effort to get it passed.

The Chamber of Commerce president said he doesn't know yet if the Chamber will just make a public statement supporting an alcohol sales petition or if the Chamber will take a more active leadership role in pursuing a petition drive.

The Chamber of Commerce's executive committee is setting up a time to meet and discuss it's options. That meeting will probably take place early next week. NewsChannel 11 will keep you updated on what the Chamber decides.
