Lubbock Business Raises Money for Special Olympics

As NewsChannel 11 prepares for our Olympic coverage, ABC Bank is raising money for Lubbock's own Olympians.

The Special Olympics Torch Run was held Wednesday. It aimed to raise both money and awareness for the Special Olympics Texas program. The run ended with a BBQ lunch, where children could play on a climbing wall. They could also race Amtrykes, specialized tricycles made for people with disabilities.

"I like to go out and have fun. I like track and I go bowling with my friends," said Paul Corbin, a Special Olympian. "Sherry's my coach, and she's really wonderful. And I like going out there to have fun."

Lubbock Police will also hold a fundraiser for Special Olympics Thursday at the Texas Roadhouse. They will take over the serving duties and donate their tips to the organization.
