A 21-year-old mother is behind bars after Lubbock police say she left her one-month-old baby in the car while she went grocery shopping.

Andrea Rodriguez is charged with abandoning a child. Police say she left the baby girl alone in the car on July 1st when she went into United Market Street on 50th and Indiana around 6:20pm. According to the police report, the baby was crying, her face was red and puffy and her skin was hot to the touch.

Rodriguez told police that she forgot the one-month-old was with her and thought she had left the baby with her sister.

The baby was taken to University Medical Center, but did not suffer any major injuries.
