Texas Tech University Vying for Flagship Status

Texas Tech officials say the university should join the ranks of the University of Texas and Texas A&M, and become a tier one school.

Six other public universities are vying for the same designation and Texas Tech could receive the honor as early as next year. A decision will be made at during the 81st legislative session.

Texas Tech needs about $70 million to become a tier one school, which Chancellor Kent Hance says he hopes the Texas legislature will appropriate next year.
