If your sinuses are blocked, try humming. New research shows humming increases ventilation in the sinuses. The pilot study found humming speeds up the exchange of air between the sinuses and the nasal cavity, and sparked a fifteen fold boost in nitric oxide rates. Nitric oxide is a naturally occurring gas that opens up nasal passages.
Researchers say now they plan to study whether regular humming could actually play a role in preventing recurrent bouts of sinusitis. You can read, or hum through this study in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
