Some future doctors officially look the part. The students from the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine Class of 2012 received an official symbol of health professionals--their white coats. The White Coat Ceremony, a rite of passage for first year medical students, took place Friday afternoon at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
Dean of the Medical School Steven Berk, M.D. says, "When they put on this white coat it means they're taking a pledge to learn how to be great physicians. To do all the things physicians need to do to help patients."
The new medical students include 47 from the West Texas area, 37 from Texas Tech, and the others are from other universities in the United States.
