There is more history than the museum in Brownfield. A.M. Brownfield's grandson lives in town.
"My grandfather came here from Nolan County and stayed in 1898. He brought his cattle herd up here with him and my father, a boy of 13, came with him that summer and they dug some water wells and a dugout for him to live in. And when the summer was over, my grandfather went back to get the rest of the ranch from Nolan County, and he left my father here by himself with 800 head of cattle to spend the winter," says A.R. "General" Brownfield.
General Brownfield left years ago to pursue a military career, but he moved back to Brownfield a decade ago to ranch and farm his inherited land. Brownfield was actually born on the ranch his grandfather established.
