Councilman Leonard Held In Contempt of Court Order

A Lubbock City Councilman was held in contempt of a court order this week. John Leonard and his wife Mary-Francis are currently going through divorce proceedings.  The judge in the case says Leornard failed to comply with an order to pay spousal support until his divorce is final. Leonard spoke to NewsChannel 11 and says this was a simple miscommunication between he and his lawyer.

"There's been some miscommunication over some court paperwork. This has come out of a long and protracted divorce proceeding lasting almost two years that has torn apart my family and divided our friends. I have been strictly following the advice of my attorney, Jack McClendon, and he is appealing the judge's decision. I'm terribly disappointed that my personal life has been drug into the public by the media," said Leonard.

Leornard has been ordered to pay the restitution. Failure to do so could mean jail time.
