Texas Tech volleyball began its 2008 season with a team meeting today at the United Spirit Arena. A total of 16 girls reported with nine returners and seven newcomers.
The team will start practice on Sat., Aug. 9th, at 3 p.m. and continue practicing daily. Most days will be two-a-day practices and will prepare the team for the upcoming 2008 season. A public scrimmage will be held on Aug. 22nd with a time to be announced later.
Expectations are high for the 2008 volleyball season as two of the top 50 recruits in the nation, Amanda Dowdy and Karlyn Meyers will be wearing a Tech uniform. Dowdy was recently named as the top Central Texas high school athlete for the 2007-2008 school year. Tech also has seniors Michelle Flores, Brandi Hood and Amanda Sbragia returning to help bring leadership and experience to the squad.
"I am excited to have everyone back in the gym. They worked very hard this summer and we are all looking forward to our 2008 campaign," head coach Nancy Todd said before the team meeting.
The scrimmage on Aug. 22nd will be open to the public and media. The first match of the season will be against North Texas at the Mean Green Volleyball Classic in Denton, Texas. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
