Victim Believed at Fault in Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Posted:

A pedestrian is dead after attempting to cross an access road off I-27 and 37th Street around 9 p.m. Thursday night.

Police say when 45 year-old Glenn Blackwell tried to cross the I-27 access road near 34th Street, he was hit by a vehicle traveling south. EMS took Blackwell to UMC where he later died.

Police say the accident is under investigation and that it is illegal to cross the street unless at a designated crosswalk, as signs along I-27 state.

The driver, 41 year-old Terry Lynn Curry, will most likely not face charges for this accident. We also know police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in this accident. They do, however, believe that Blackwell caused this accident by not following the instructions on the posted sign. After swerving to miss Blackwell, Curry hit him, and he later died at UMC.

This accident serves as a reminder to pay close attention to posted signs and to always use crosswalks.
