Fires sparked by lightning keep Lubbock and area firefighters busy Wednesday evening. Lightning from storms near Shallowater caused a large fire.
It started in a field a few miles north of Shallowater, on Highway 179. Crews from Shallowater and Abernathy helped to get the blaze under control. The Lubbock Fire Department responded to three building fires, all within about 30 minutes, that were caused by lightning.
The Fire Department says one house in the 4600 block of 16th Street sustained moderate fire damage after lightning struck it.
