Lubbock County Commissioners will soon vote on the proposed increased tax rate. Commissioners heard from citizens Monday at the final public hearing concerning the rate hike.
Two weeks ago, Lubbock County Commissioners voted to increase taxes by nearly 8 percent. That means the taxes on a $100,000 home would increase by about $3 a month. Critics believe the proposed increase is more than what is needed for the new county jail.
"We had two today and five at the first hearing we always listen to the people out in the County and taxpayers and its tough this year with the jail and I hope everyone understands that," said County Commissioner Mark Heinrich.
The Commissioners will vote on the tax rate increase at their next meeting on September 8th.
