Are you running from mosquitoes every time you go outside? It seems like they're worse now than they have been all summer. You may be asking yourself, "Are any of those mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus?" The Lubbock Health Department says there has been one case of West Nile in Hale County, but no human cases so far in Lubbock County.
Your best protection is in a can or bottle. The CDC suggests insect repellent that contains DEET. To reduce the number of mosquitoes in your yard, be sure to empty any standing water.
Remember, horses are vulnerable too, so owners are encouraged to make sure they are vaccinated against West Nile.
