A Lubbock county has found a self proclaimed drug addict guilty of murder.
Mitchell Wachholtz shot and killed Chase Pendleton at a central Lubbock convenience store July 2, 2007. During testimony Wednesday, Wachholtz admitted to shooting Pendleton. He claimed it was in self defense, saying that he felt threatened at the store.
A psychologist added that with Wachholtz's long history of drug abuse and mental problems may have led him to perceive danger, even none existed. Other witnesses claimed Pendleton's friend was spouting racial slurs and loud comments just before the shooting.
The trial is scheduled to resume Thursday afternoon, with the sentencing phase of the trial. NewsChannel 11 will have the latest on NewsChannel 11 at 10.
