Three patients are still recovering at University Medical Center Monday night, after having weight loss surgery at Highland Medical Center. The patients apparently developed infections after the surgeries because of a possible leak in their stomachs. One woman died from complications last Thursday morning. The three other patients were transferred to University Medical Center last weekend. One remains in intensive care Monday evening, the other two are in stable condition.
Five patients who had the weight loss surgery at Highland have now retained the Lubbock law firm Turner and Jordan. No patients are from Lubbock, however a some are from West Texas.
