Police Search For Missing Texas Tech Graduate Student

The family of a Texas Tech graduate student and teaching assistant needs your help to find him. Michael Leonard Krasnick, 61, was to start work in Tech's Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management Program the end of August. But he never showed up.

To friends and family, Michael Leonard Krasnick, is simply ML. He moved from Austin to lot 80 in the Loop 289 RV Park in late June. Family members tell NewsChannel 11 Krasnick came to Lubbock to attend and teach at Texas Tech's Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management Program.

"He just come in and checked in and he told me that he was going to leave for a couple of weeks," Loop 289 RV Park Owner Monte Tarno said.

Tarno says he last saw Krasnick in early July. "I told him I would call him when his rent was due and he could send me a check in the mail or give me a credit card, never heard back. So I've called him four or five times in a month and haven't heard anything," Tarno added.

Meanwhile friends in Austin started to worry and called Tarno.  "He said that he'd gone on a backpacking trip with another friend," Tarno said.

Lubbock Police Department Captain Greg Stevens said, "He wired money to a friend who was supposed to go camping with him. Yet he never showed up to get the money or the friend. It turns out the friend couldn't go."

Captain Stevens says Krasnick was headed to Escalante State Park in Utah. Along the way, Stevens tells us, he stopped in New Mexico to visit friends. "We believe July 8th was actually the last time he was seen. He had dinner with a friend, and phoned a friend a couple days after that and since then has not been heard from," Stevens said.

It's been nearly two months since Krasnick was last seen at Loop 289 RV Park, and police say he has not been seen in class. Coupled with the fact he never picked up wired money, Stevens says this now becomes a missing person's case. "All of them together they led to a totality of circumstances that we feel lead into the territory of a bona fide missing person," Stevens said.

Krasnick is a white male, six' one", two hundred and fifty pounds. The 61-year-old has partially balding gray hair and brown eyes. He drives a gray Nissan Titan with a gray camper, and Texas license plate number 84P-JY3

If you know anything about Krasnick's whereabouts, you are asked to call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000.
