Kayla Vines, 18, was recovering at Covenant Medical Center Tuesday night. Her twin sister, Kelsey, died Tuesday afternoon following a fatal car accident in south Lubbock County.  Investigators tell NewsChannel 11 the Vines were headed north on Indiana from Woodrow Road when they collided with a dump truck.

A family friend says Kayla is scheduled to go home Wednesday. She told NewsChannel 11 Kayla would stay at the hospital overnight for observation, and that Kayla only suffered bumps and bruises in the crash.

Authorities pronounced her sister, Kelsey, dead at the scene. Investigators tell us that Kelsey was driving, and Kayla was in the passenger seat, when the dump truck veered and collided with her car just across from Kemper Estates.  "The truck driver, Pedro Alcorte, 70-years-old of Lubbock, was not injured," Department of Public Safety Corporal John Gonzalez said.

Kelsey was a senior at Lubbock-Cooper High School, as is Kayla.  Their father is the deputy superintendent, and their mother is an elementary school teacher for the district.  We're told that friends from the district were with the family Tuesday night, doing what they could to help comfort them during this time.

We spoke with investigators Tuesday night. They tell us they hope to have more on the cause of this accident Wednesday.
