Ysidro Gutierrez is currently a Democratic County Commissioner, but now he says he'll switch parties and become a Republican. Gutierrez also tells NewsChannel 11 that he will consider running for county judge.
First we asked him why he wants to become a Republican. He answered, "I guess most people know that I've been holding this office here as a Democrat, but after I had a good chance to evaluate the platforms of the Republican party, after this convention, I believe that I belong to the Republican Party."
It's only fair to point out that Ysidro Gutierrez lost the Democratic primary to be re-elected as County Commissioner.
NewsChannel 11 also asked Gutierrez why he would consider running for County Judge. "I think that having served 4 years as commissioner, I'm ready to move up, so I think that a county-wide office would be appropriate for me. I would like to run for county judge perhaps sometime in the future," he replied.
The current county judge is Tom Head; his term continues until December 31, 2010.
