Mermella Sentenced To Two 20-Year Sentences

A Lubbock County jury sentenced 23-year-old Samuel Mermella to 40-years in prison for the sexual assault of a young teen. Wednesday, jury members found Mermella guilty on two counts of sexual assault.

During the punishment phase, another young teen testified that Mermella assaulted her. Thursday afternoon, the jury sentenced Mermella to 20-years for each count. The sentences are stacked, meaning Mermella must serve the first 20-years before starting the second 20-year sentence.
