Shallowater Pigskin Preview

Shallowater Head Coach Keith Kitchens gets nine starters back from last year's 6 - 6 team, but the biggest change for the Mustangs will be the drop from 3A to 2A ball. And while most see it as an advantage, Coach Kitchens says when you're playing in a district like 4-2A, against the likes of Post and Idalou, that's not necessarily the case.

"We're dropping in with them, along with Tahoka, who had a good year last year. Roosevelt has got some good kids coming. New Deal is good every year, so we're dropping into a tough district. Dropping down this time might not be that big of an advantage," says Coach Kitchens.

But son and quarterback Kiel Kitchens disagrees -- kind of. "I think it will help us to go down to 2A because we didn't have as many people as some of the 3A teams. But the competition will still be real tough, and we'll have to work just as hard as we did last year," says Kitchens.
