The City of Lubbock will not charge schools, the county or state agencies for storm water protection.
Councilman John Leonard said he did not want to give schools a free pass while homeowner and business rates went up, but one of the biggest objections was that schools have already set their budgets and would have a hard time coming up with the money. Lubbock ISD, for example, would have to pay more than $80,000.
Thursday, the council approved raising residential storm water rates by $1 per month and commercial rates will go up nearly $7 per month.
