Arson Destroys Home Leaving Family Homeless

A Lubbock family narrowly escaped after fire investigators say someone set their home ablaze.

Fire crews responded to a home in the 700 block of 31st Street around 1:30 a.m. Friday. The house did not have a working smoke detector, but a man, woman and two small children managed to get out safely.

Friday evening, the fire marshal's office tells NewsChannel 11 someone started the fire outside a back bedroom, and they say an accelerant was used.

Those family living at the home told police that someone had threatened them earlier and now the Red Cross is helping them out.

If you noticed anything suspicious in the 700 block of 31st Street recently, you are urged to call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000. You can remain anonymous.
