Record Number Expected To Take Part In Steer Show

Hundreds of students are finishing preparations for Saturday's Steer Show at the South Plains Fair. More than 400 3rd -12th graders will take part in the competition.

Organizers tell NewsChannel 11 a record number of contestants are expected to compete for both blue ribbons and prize money. "We've had 430 entered, kids from across the twenty counties surrounding Lubbock. We do not know for sure how many showed up yet, but a lot of them did. But it is a record number entries. We're really looking forward to a really good show," said Curtis Preston, Panhandle South Plains Fair Livestock Superintendent.

The Heifers kick off the show around 8 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by the steer competition at 11 a.m.
