Major crimes in the Hub City appear to be heading down.
According to crime statistics provided by the Lubbock Police Department, in 2007 there were 15 murders. That's compared to five murders between January and June of this year. The numbers also show aggravated assaults and rapes are down.
Captain Greg Stevens says the police department can't take all the credit. "Lubbock's economy has reminded quite stable compared to the rest of the country and that always has a large impact on crime statistics. Lubbock is the kind of community where the community remains involved as compared to other cities our size," said Capt. Stevens.
Stevens adds the report is still a bit premature because it compares all of last year, with just six months of this year.
