An update on the Glucowatch. Remember, NewsChannel 11 told you about that device worn on the wrist that uses tiny electric currents to monitor blood sugar for patients with diabetes. We also told you that it was approved by prescription only for adults.
Well, that was the case, but not anymore. The Food and Drug Administration has given the manufacturer the okay now to market the Glucowatch through pediatricians for children with diabetes as well.
The Glucowatch is $600, and the disposable sensors cost about $8 a day, but that still may be a good option for patients who are having trouble monitoring their diabetes. For more information, you can (click here), or you can call (866) 459-2824.
