Homecoming Weekend Rain Plans

There's a possibility of rain in the forecast for Texas Tech Homecoming weekend. While organizers are hoping for the best, they're planning for the worst.

Mary Ohlig hasn't missed a Texas Tech Homecoming in 10 years. She's a proud Red Raider, and it runs in the family. Her sister and both her daughters also went to Tech. "Just coming back and seeing all the spirit, and I still have one daughter still here, so it's fun to come back for that," said Ohlig.

Though rain is in the forecast this year, it won't stop Ohlig. "I'll be there whether it rains or not," she said.

Other Red Raider fans agree. "Everyone has been so excited about all the homecoming activities so far, so I don't think the rain will stop many people," said Homecoming Association Coordinator, Brittany Perot.

If it does rain some homecoming plans may change a bit. For example, Friday night's pep rally will move inside the Student Rec Complex and the University will reschedule the bon fire for another big football game weekend.

The homecoming committee will have to cancel the parade if it rains. "Everything's made out of paper and stuff, so it gets ruined, and we have a list of media to call. We'll start calling media. We'll call all the participants in the parade to get the word out," said homecoming advisor, Jana Vise.

The football game may be postponed it if there's lightning, but the athletic department says it's very unlikely they would cancel it. "I think the true Tech fans will still show up. I will still show up because I'm a Tech fan, and it's gonna be fun. The rain doesn't matter. Rain or shine, we'll be there," said student Stephanie Day.

If you plan to go to the game, remember, you can't bring umbrellas into the stadium.  You may want to bring a poncho or raincoat instead.
