Red Raider Fans Get Pumped Up for Homecoming

This weekend, Lubbock is bleeding red and black.  It's Texas Tech homecoming and besides the big game on Saturday, there are plenty of activities helping to get fans in the Raider spirit.

Texas Tech will take on Nebraska at Jones AT&T Stadium at 2 p.m. Saturday, but even before kickoff there are a lot of fans already putting on their game faces. The cheers are loud and clear, the band is ready, and the fans are pumped up.  Texas Tech homecoming is in full swing and the 5-0 Red Raiders prepare for another victory.

Friday afternoon a pep rally was held for students to show their school spirit. "It's a good time for everyone to get together, especially for new students it's like a big bonding experience getting to know the traditions a lot more. I think it means a lot to people, bringing back alumni which brings back parents, grandparents, so it's just like a big family celebration," said TTU Homecoming Association Coordinator Brittany Perot.

On Friday night fans are welcome to a bonfire on the Texas Tech rugby fields. "We start at the bottom, the grounds crew will put this barricade up for us then we just start packing them up on top of each other making sure they are all level, sturdy, and straight.  Then we go till basically it reaches the top, then we have all our murals of basically the team we are going to play and then tonight we will set it up and get ready to light it," said TTU Bonfire Chair Cody Crea.

Students have spent many hours getting ready and used almost 500 wood pallets in the pit. "People come from all over Lubbock to see it. It's a sight," said Crea.

Some very dedicated students are already waiting in line outside the stadium for Saturday's game. "It's homecoming, we want to be on the front row, we're true Raider fans and we want to be on the front row for that game, said TTU camper Mitch Lynch.

Some of the most die-hard fans were camped out since Wednesday.
