City Council Makes Decision on Tara West Building

The Tara West building will stay where it is - for now.

Back in May, Lubbock Mayor Tom Martin suggested using the building for the new visitor center and moving it to 19th and Crickets Avenue.

Tuesday, the Lubbock City Council decided against moving the house, which has been located at 4th and Slide since 1941.

Council members say upgrading the building would not be cost effective. Instead, the city plans to sell Tara House and expand Slide Road north past Loop 289.

Old Lubbock Building Could Become New Visitor Center
Some questions to advancing the visitor center project were answered Thursday at the City Council meeting.
