33-year-old Tony Berrera has burns over 60% of his body and is literally fighting for his life right now at University Medical Center. According to family members, Berrera's wife, 31-year-old Rosemary poured gasoline over her husband and then lit him on fire.
The incident happened late Saturday afternoon in the front yard of 2015 10th Street in North Overton. Friends say it was a disturbing scene. "He was trying to ignore her and wasn't paying any attention to her, but she just kept messing with him and fighting with him. And they started arguing and she poured gas on him and he poured his beer on her and then she lit him on fire," says eyewitness Renee Smith.
Smith says both Tony and Rosemary were drinking at the time. Tony was burned from the waste up and was on fire for at least two minutes before a relative was able to pat him down and put the fire out. Friends also say there were children in the yard who witnessed the horrifying incident.
Rosemary has not yet been arrested, but investigators plan to get a warrant for her arrest from the District Attorney's office first thing Tuesday morning. However, she might be hard to find, family friends told us Rosemary is hiding out.
