Tomorrow, (Tuesday) the subject for the Texas Tech Community Medical Class will be the prostate, and why bigger isn't always better.
Dr. Bernhard Mittemeyer, TTUHSC, M.D. Professor of Urology says "Cancer of the prostate is the most common solid organ cancer in men over age 50. It's as common as breast cancer in women. It has almost an equal number of deaths and it's curable, if caught early. The emphasis tomorrow is going to be how can we diagnose this disease early and at the same time treat men for either infections or benign enlargement."
Even though the subject is about men, women are encouraged to attend class too, because Dr. Mittemeyer says it's usually the women who talk their loved ones into making that appointment. Speaking of appointments, these is a free class for the community tomorrow evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., but please call 743-2008 to reserve a spot so enough seating is provided.
