Texas Tech Expansion Project Almost 100% Funded

The goal of Texas Tech fund raising officials is $1 million in five weeks, so construction can begin on the much anticipated Jones AT&T Stadium east side expansion project. The plans outline an east side with 500 new club seats and more than 20 new suites, growing the capacity of the stadium by about 1000.

If all goes as planned this newest addition, at a $25 million price tag, should be complete by the 2010 season.

One issue some have with the project is parking. Parking is already sparse on the stadium's east side. But project organizers say, at most, this project will only take up between 25 and 30 spaces.

University Chancellor Kent Hance said, "The response to this furnishing effort has been tremendous and we are thankful to all our generous donors. We are close to reaching our goal and need all those who have been planning to give to make that donation today so we can finish the campaign and start construction as soon as football season ends."

NewsChannel 11 spoke to one of Tech's chief fundraiser's Saturday and he said nearly all of the 20 suites available in the new east side have been sold between $30,000 and $60,000 each. He added the goal of $1 million will be easy to meet and most likely will be exceeded.
