Wal-Mart Gift Cards Sold for Cash Come Up Empty

Lubbock authorities are looking for two suspects involved in a gift card scam.

Lubbock Police Detective Les Melugin says the couple entered the Wal-Mart on South Loop 289, to purchase gift cards. He says two credit cards were declined during checkout, before successfully being paid for with a third.

The male suspect then took the gift cards to The Money Place, to be sold for cash. However, Melugin says that somewhere along the way, those cards were emptied. When the purchaser went to use the cards, they came up with zero balance.

If you recognize either of these people, you may be eligible for a cash reward. Call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000. Remember callers can remain anonymous.
