Verma Callaway lives at Boardwalk Apartments, and was surprised to find her power turned off Wednesday because she paid her bill earlier this month. "We pay our bills, but we pay it to the office, and apparently they didn't pay the bill, so the electricity has been turned off," she said.
Lubbock Power & Light says they gave the Boardwalk Apartment complex three warnings, telling them to pay their bill or get their power shut off. Callaway is upset about the problem, "Pretty disgusted right now. Real disgusted, and they don't seem to be worrying about it at all."
NewsChannel 11 tried to ask management why they didn't pay their bill, but they wouldn't answer the door. We called them, but no one answered. Then we tried one last time to talk to the apartment management at their office, but they said, "You've been asked to leave and we're not changing our minds."
Tenants don't know how long it will be before they get their power turned back on, but Callaway hopes it's soon. "Pretty uncomfortable, you know, sit here in the dark, no T.V. Nothing," she said.
The apartment complex's management wouldn't talk to NewsChannel 11, but there was a sign on the door that said they hope the problem will be short lived.
