Text Messaging Helps Voters Locate Polls

The Lubbock County Office of Elections is using technology to make it easy to find a polling place near you. People use cell phones every day to call, text message, and even access the internet. Now there's one more thing you can use your cell phone for- to find a convenient polling place in Lubbock County.

"I didn't know you could use your cell phone like that," said Lubbock voter Rick Ward.

To receive polling places on your phone, send a text message with your zip code to the number 75044.  About a minute later you'll receive a message with the three to five polling places closet to you.

People like Brian Cooper who want to vote but aren't sure where to go, have easy access to that information through their cell phone. "We didn't know where to go, so since we're voting we know where to go now. That's just right by our house actually. That's pretty neat. I appreciate that," said Cooper.

You can vote at any of the voting centers in Lubbock County from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Tuesday, but this might make it a little easier to find one close by.
