Texas Tech Athletic officials have this warning for fans that did not purchase a ticket for the Oklahoma State game: watch it on TV or buyers beware.
"We had professional counterfeiters in town selling tickets that they produced themselves to unsuspecting people," said Dave Welsh, Texas Tech Assistant Athletic Director for Ticket Operations.
Welsh says about five-hundred people fell victim to a counterfeit ticket scam during the Texas Tech vs. University of Texas game. The scammers were mainly working the east side of the stadium, near Broadway.
Welsh says the fans paid about $200 for what looked like a season ticket.
"They looked very similar," said Welsh. "In fact, if you didn't have the original ticket, it looked very much like an authentic ticket."
Welsh say's the bottom line is, if you don't buy your ticket from the ticket office you are taking a huge risk.
