Gilbert Flores Wins County Commissioner Precinct Three Seat

Numbers indicate Democrat Gilbert Flores wins County Commissioner Precinct Three Seat.   In 2004, current Commissioner Ysidro Gutierrez defeated incumbent Flores, who had held the seat for 12 years.

Now fast forward to the 2008 election. Ysidro Gutierrez lost his reelection bid in the democratic primary. That set the stage for this election between Gilbert Flores and Republican Frank Gutierrez.

NewsChannel 11 spoke with Gutierrez who thanked all his supporters. Gutierrez says he expects voters to hold Flores accountable of all his campaign promises. He adds if he was running as an Independent or Democrat it would have been a better battle.

"This part of the precinct is beholden to the Democratic Party and I think the door to a two party political system in Precinct Three has been further open to where people do have choices," Gutierrez said.

Meanwhile presumptive County Commissioner Precinct Three Gilbert Flores tells NewsChannel 11 county business is a business and you have to treat it as such. "Good management. Tighten up our budget lower our tax rate. If you lower our tax rate home owners won't pay so many taxes and can lower our taxes," Flores said.
