Courts and Crimes 9.11

After more than a month of questioning, jury selection is finished in one of Lubbock's most high profile cases. The Lubbock DA's office picked the last three jurors on Tuesday for the capital murder trial of Vaughn Ross. Ross is accused of killing Texas Tech library dean Douglas Birdsall and Viola Ross-McVade on January 30th, 2001. The trial is scheduled to start Monday at 1:15. Ross faces the death penalty if convicted.

Also in court on Wednesday, the Lubbock grand jury indicted Dameion Hall for theft of a gun. Hall was indicted last week for attempted capital murder, aggravated assault, and escape. The charges stem from a fight in the parking lot of Midnight Rodeo on August 14th. Police say that Hall fired a gun and then tried to shoot an officer before the gun was wrestled away.

The grand jury also indicted Eddie Garcia on attempted sexual assault and stalking charges. Garcia allegedly committed the crimes in neighborhoods near Indiana and the South Loop. Police arrested him after a 13-year-old girl took down his license plate number.
