Accused Red Light Runner Cited On Similar Charge In 2006

Posted:

New information concerning Tuesday's fatal accident in east Lubbock. NewsChannel 11 did some digging, and found that the driver who police say ran a red light, was cited on a similar charge before.

Marcelo Perez Jr., 35, received a ticket for running a stop sign in October 2006, and then two months later - for not wearing a seat belt.

Police say Perez disregarded a red light at MLK & Parkway Tuesday afternoon, and collided with Billy Spence, 62, a U.S. Air Force veteran. Spence was pronounced dead at University Medical Center.

Police are still investigating, and so far no charges have been filed against Perez.
