Miss Lubbock USA 2008 Apologizes For Racy Photos

Thursday, the Lubbock beauty queen who resigned her title of Miss Lubbock USA Wednesday tells NewsChannel 11 she's sorry for her actions.

Amanda Gass, 23, turned in her crown voluntarily after semi-nude pictures of her surfaced on a Lubbock nightlife website. The picture shows her at a Lubbock hot spot wearing nothing but shorts and body paint. Along with her crown, Gass is giving up all other prizes and scholarships she received for her win.

Thursday, Gass sent a statement to NewsChannel 11 apologizing for her actions. It says, "I am very fortunate to have been named Miss Lubbock, and to have had the privilege of representing Lubbock in the Miss Texas pageant. Regretfully, a decision I made has shed negative light on the city and the pageant. I sincerely apologize to the city of Lubbock, the Miss USA pageant, and Mrs. Nancy Smith." Nancy Smith is the pageant director and NewsChannel 11 contacted her, but she has yet to return our calls.

Amanda Gass was crowned in March, and competed in the Miss Texas USA pageant this past June. Because she already competed in the state pageant, the runner-up will not take her place. The photos have since been taken off of the internet.
