F-16 jets flew over the Texas Tech campus Friday to mark a much more somber occasion. Tech's Air Force ROTC held a vigil to honor American soldiers taken as Prisoners of War or who are still missing in action. Colonel Raymond Knox talked about the importance of never forgetting the soldiers who don't make it back from war.
"One of the unspoken truths in our military is that you may get shot down, you may get captured, but you'll never be forgotten and you'll always be brought home," said Col. Knox.
The ceremony finished with a 21 gun salute.
Just after the vigil, dozens of students gathered at the Student Union for a rally to get ready for Saturday's game. Cheerleaders and players showed up to lead the students in a pep rally. The Red Raiders play Ole Miss at 2:30 p.m. at Jones SBC Stadium.
Last month a government official testified nearly 1,500 children who recently arrived unaccompanied at the border could not be accounted for.
