Lubbock is above the state and national average for teen birth. Lubbock County's rate of Chlamydia per capita is also higher than 48 other states, but efforts are underway to change those numbers.
One of those is Teen Straight Talk, a free program for adults and their teens. Co-organizer of Teen Straight Talk Linda Brice says "We're giving straight facts. We talk about the STD's, we show the pictures of STD on body parts so they know what to look for if they do become infected with an STD. We talk about responsibilities and consequences."
Teen Straight Talk is at three locations Saturday: The Bridge, The Garden and Arts Center, and the Guadalupe Economic Services Center. Registration starts at 12:30. The program runs from 1- 4 p.m., both teens and parents are welcome.
