"Teen Straight Talk" Gives Parents & Teens An Icebreaker

Lubbock is above the state and national average for teen births and if you have not found the right time to talk to your teen about sex the right time may be Saturday.

"Teen Straight Talk" is a program for teens and their parents to learn about everything from improving self-esteem, to understanding how you get pregnant, to preventing STD's. There will be "his" and "her" books for every teen to take home so they can get the right answers when they have questions about sex.

Dr. Linda Brice, co-organizer of the event, says, "We have professional medical people presenting it.  We're going to have role models nursing students, medical students college students there so that the kids can see that there is something after high school".

Teen straight talk is Saturday at 3 locations:

  • The Bridge (old Posey Elementary) at 1301 Redbud Avenue
  • The Garden and Arts Center at 4215 University Avenue
  • The Guadalupe Economic Services Center at 1502 Erskine

Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the program lasts from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
