Earlier this week NewsChannel 11 told you home invasions and burglaries are on the rise in the Hub City. On Friday, police say they have caught a repeat robber.

Police arrested 20-year-old Jaffice Lee Harris and say he has admitted to beating an elderly man early Wednesday morning. But solving the crime actually started in the parking of a United Supermarket.

Jaffice Harris allegedly attempted to steal a woman's purse in the parking lot of the United Supermarket at 50th and Avenue Q. Police say while Harris didn't get her purse they did get a vehicle description to help them in the case.

Just hours earlier on Wednesday morning, police say Harris broke into Kenneth and Doris Forson's home in the 3800 block of 48th Street. "He said give me the money, give me the money. That's the only words I heard him say. Give me the money, give me the money," Kenneth said.

Kenneth says Harris beat him with an umbrella and his own cane. His wife, Doris, was in the other bedroom and called 911. "I had to open the door to see what he was doing to him a. My husband said close the door honey, lock it and call 911," Doris said.

The attack left Kenneth with these cuts on his head, a concussion, a severely bruised arm and even a bruised lung. However, just less than 48 hours later, police say they linked Harris, who was already in jail for the attempted purse snatching, to Kenneth's cuts and bruises. In addition, investigators say late Thursday, Harris confessed to invading the Forson's home.

Friday afternoon NewsChannel 11 spoke with Kenneth, who says he is glad to hear of Harris's arrest. According to court records it turns out, Harris lives only a few blocks from the Forson's.

Harris faces felony charges of burglary and robbery and is jailed a $150,000 bond.
