The Lubbock Fire Marshal's office continues to look for answers into what caused a deadly fire in Central Lubbock Sunday morning. Fire fighters responded to the 3000 block of Erskine just after 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
While putting out the fire, they found a man dead inside the house. The Fire Marshal's Office ruled the fire accidental, but they are still investigating the exact cause. Fire Marshal's asked us not to release the victim's name until the family is notified.
Neighbors had already heard about the fire and were shocked and saddened by the news. "The way the fire looked, looks like it was pretty bad,"said Eva Rangel as she stared at what's left of the house a few doors down from her own home. One of the neighbors saying that she was throwing trash, and she didn't see no smoke or nothing, but she could smell like burning electrician. The fire was burning, and she just went inside the house, and the next thing she saw was smoke through her kitchen window," Rangel said.
Rangel has known the man who lived inside this home since she was a child. "Really, really sad," Rangel said. Neighbors like Rangel have unanswered questions they hope the investigation will answer. They are anxious to find out how this happened, so close to home.
