The man accused of breaking into a Ransom Canyon home two years ago says he was insane.
Jury selection started Monday in the trial of Eric DeLeon, now 31. He is claiming insanity for the 2006 home invasion. He is charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit aggravated assault.
Investigators say DeLeon broke into the home while the owners were asleep, during the early morning hours of March 25, 2006. He allegedly stabbed the husband, before the wife grabbed a gun and shot DeLeon in the chest.
The victim, Thomas Ritter, 73, survived the attack. DeLeon faces up to life in prison if found guilty. The trial continues Tuesday.
