According to new recommendations from the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine, we need twice as much exercise as previously suggested. An hour a day, five times a week is the best health insurance we can get.
"It is hard, but I look at it as an investment in your health. It's an investment in my health, and it's prevention of heart attacks, weak bones, or osteoporosis, some types of cancers," says Dr. Alison Eckhoff.
Dr. Eckhoff also says that walking at a moderate pace is great if you keep it up for an hour at a time. If you're wondering how fast moderate is, it's about four miles an hour.
