He claimed insanity, but a Lubbock Jury disagreed. It took members four hours to find 31-year-old Eric DeLeon guilty of Burglary of a Habitation. The jury also found he used a deadly weapon in the crime.
DeLeon broke into a Ransom Canyon home in March of 2006. Investigators say the owners were asleep, when DeLeon broke through their bedroom window. He stabbed 73-year-old Thomas Ritter, before his wife grabbed a gun and fired three shots, hitting DeLeon in the chest.
Ritter survived his injuries. The jury will decide DeLeon's punishment Friday morning. He faces up to life in prison.
