Participating in water aerobics classes may make childbirth easier. Researchers in Brazil studied over 70 pregnant women. Half of them took water aerobics classes three times a week throughout their pregnancy, the other half did not.
They found that 27% of women who took the classes requested pain medication during delivery, compared to 65% of women who did not take the classes. Experts say water aerobics does not harm the baby, and while they do not know how it helps with pain during childbirth, they say it may be a valuable tool for pregnant women. Experts say the water aerobics may help women become better prepared mentally for childbirth, which could translate into needing less pain medication.
