An arrest warrant reveals new details in a weekend homicide. Karen Follis, 45, is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the death of 25-year-old Kristine Bufkin. A passing driver discovered her body underneath the Loop 289 over-pass at Southeast Drive Saturday morning.

Authorities revealed Tuesday that Bufkin wrecked her car along F.M. 1729 either late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Investigators believe she was not severely injured by the wreck and started walking down the road for help. That's when they say Follis hit her near East 50th Street and then dragged her body with the vehicle to Southeast Drive.

According to the arrest warrant, Follis told police she thought she'd hit a dog or a deer, but other witnesses report Follis called them for help. The warrant states when the witnesses arrived at Southeast Drive, they saw Bufkin's body hanging from the truck.

NewsChannel 11 has also learned Follis and Bufkin knew each other, prior to this accident, but investigators are still looking into that relationship.  "The connection is there. Now, how strong that connection is, is still part of the investigation. What bearing it has on the situation has been an on going part of it. From what detectives can tell right now, there's no indication that it is involved in the collision itself," Lubbock Police Captain Greg Stevens said.

Police are still speaking with other involved parties. No one else is charged at this time. Follis is jailed on $100,000 bond. Authorities say she could face additional charges if they find she intentionally hit Bufkin.

Bufkin attended Monterey High School and South Plains College. She leaves behind her parents and a young son. A "Celebration of Life" service is scheduled for Wednesday at Monterey Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m.

Homicide Suspect Now in Custody
Lubbock police say two persons of interest in the death of a young Lubbock woman are now behind bars. Police are still asking for help to find out how a 25 year old Lubbock women died over the weekend. 25-year-old Kristine Noelle Bufkin's body was found underneath an overpass in Southeast Lubbock.
