Fire Department Urges Safety During Thanksgiving


The Fire Department urges people to be safe this Thursday. Every Thanksgiving, there are a few kitchen fires in Lubbock, but the fire department says you can avoid a holiday fire if you're careful. 

"If you're not someone that bakes all the time or uses your oven all the time, please don't turn that oven on and go to the store. That happens so often that a lot of our fires this time of year with cooking from someone turning it on and leaving," says Garret Nelson with the Lubbock Fire Marshal's Office.

The Fire Marshal's Office says most kitchen fires can be avoided just by being aware.
